To Know Something New

Ocean waves loiter

about the shore, each asking

the mighty leaf, “How

did you manage so far on

your own?” In a quiet voice,

the green leaf answers,

“It was our friend, the wind, who

beckoned me to leave

all that I have known, with the

hope of learning something new.”

(This Double Tanka is a revised version of a poem I wrote in April of 2022 in response to a NaPoWriMo prompt from Soul Craft.)
